4 Paws Playhouse Hosts Dog Lure Course this Sunday.

Come out for a day of bonding with neighbors, both human and canine, this Sunday August 19th for a Dog Lure Course and Doggie Dash.

Audrey Cooper and her dog Allie take a well deserved rest after their try on the dog lure.

Dave King, the owner of 4 Paws Playhouse, has announced that they will be hosting a dog lure course and doggie dash event this Sunday August 19th, 2018 from 11-1:00 pm. It will take place at 157th & Long Avenue. The location is the big fenced field behind Kingsberry restaurant on 159th that is also used for Oak Fest.

It should be a great day spent with furry friends with a host of activities including the dog lure event, a doggie dash where your dog's speed will be clocked, and doggie pools set up.

Lure coursing is a sport for dogs that involves chasing a mechanically operated lure. Click here or here to see a few video of the 4 Paws Playhouse's past dog lure competition to get an idea of what it entails.

Dogs with natural instinct to chase pray are especially good at this event including sight hounds, hunting dogs and retrievers. It is getting popular in the United States and is quite competitive, although this event will be for fun more than competition.

Cathy Cooper of Oak Forest and her daughter Audrey participated in 4 Paws Playhouse's dog lure event this past Saturday in Alsip. Their dog, Allie, took her turn on the lure and although Cathy described Allie's try as a total fail, she thoroughly enjoyed the event. She will be there on Sunday to enjoy the event in Oak Forest and is bringing her 13 year old dog, Queen Betsy, to partake in the event also.

This event will be non-competitive and just for fun. Admission is free. If you would like your dog to run the dog lure course, a $10 donation is required of which 50% of all proceeds will go to the Friends of Oak Forest Animal Control Commission who uses it to help local abandoned, neglected or lost animals find their way home.

It is going to be a first come, first serve basis for running the dog lure and they will continue until they run out of time or dogs.

It will be a fun day for all dogs whether they enter the course or not with a doggie dash, doggie pools, and dog food giveaways through out the day. There will be plenty of fresh water for the dogs and volunteers from Friends of the Oak Forest Animal Control Commission will be there to facilitate the day.

All dogs must be on a leash, (no retractable leashes please!) and controlled by an adult. Rabies tag/proof of rabies will be required. For the safety of both human and canines alike, no aggressive or reactive dogs allowed. All attendees need to be well socialized. There will be drinks and snacks for $1 but there is no human restrooms on site, so please be aware of that.
