4th Of July Fireworks 2021 Canceled In Oak Forest

OAK FOREST, IL — Although coronavirus cases continue to drop across the country while the number of those who are fully vaccinated continues to rise, many Independence Day celebrations have once again been canceled, modified or will be held virtually due to the pandemic.

Oak Forest’s fireworks, parades and 5K events have been canceled due to the termination of Oak Fest, which was held for over 30 years in the city.

In July 2020, the Oak Fest Commission shared the following statement on its website:

The Oak Fest Commission, NFP met as a group Tuesday night to consider options moving forward, given recent developments in the areas of public health, safety, economic conditions and the cost and difficulty of running an event solely from donations. After careful thought and consideration, it is with deep disappointment that we determined the most prudent course of action is dissolution of the organization.

Our respective paths all have crossed because each of us, from the Commissioners, group leaders, to the volunteers and patrons, have given time and energy to make Oak Fest a success.

We would like to thank the City of Oak Forest, our volunteer organizations, our vendors, our sponsors, the numerous Commission members who have served tirelessly over these 30+ years, and of course, the thousands of you who supported our cause year after year! We wish each and every one of you the very best.

Surrounding towns are hosting 4th of July themed events, such at Tinley Park and Orland Park. Tinley Park has been hosting its annual 4th of July Celebration for over 40 years. This year, fireworks will go off at McCarthy Park — 16801 S. 80th Ave, Tinley Park — after 6 p.m.

In Orland Park, the village is hosting its yearly Fourth of July celebration with the annual Veterans Liberty Run and Walk on July 2. The celebration will finish with a concert featuring John Cougar Mellencamp Tribute band Mellencougar and a musical fireworks display at Centennial Park on July 4.
