Acorn Public Library Serves Summer Meals; July 23rd-August 18th
Acorn Library in Oak Forest is partnering with the Greater Chicago food Depository to provide Free healthy summer Meals for kids!

The Greater Chicago Food Depository reports in Cook County, 1 in 5 children are hungry. The Acorn Libraryand the Greater Food Depository of Chicago are doing something about it.
Every Monday and Wednesday from July 23rd to August 18th, a free healthy and nutritious summer meal will be provided for any child 18 and under. This is to combat hunger in Cook County. “Hundreds of thousands of our neighbors struggle to access food on a daily basis,” said Kate Maehr, Greater Chicago Food Depository Executive Director and CEO. “As men and women throughout our community face high unemployment and stagnant income, the continued rise in food prices places additional strain on households across Cook County.”

The Greater Chicago Food Depository is Cook County’s largest food bank and they provide food for the hungry but their main mission is to end hunger. Working with a network of more than 700 partner agencies and programs including food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters, they distribute 164,000 meals every day.
