Avoid 159th And Cicero After Crash Knocks Out Traffic Light: City

Construction this summer had already snarled traffic in the area before the overnight accident at the intersection.

OAK FOREST, IL — An overnight accident near 159th Street and Cicero Avenue in Oak Forest damaged a traffic signal at the intersection, which is in an area that has faced massive congestion this summer because of an Illnois Department of Transportation construction project. City officials are urging drivers to avoid 159th and Cicero, as well as the surrounding roads, as emergency and clean-up crews continue to work at the scene.

Oak Forest police have not released details about the crash, which involved at least one vehicle. Officers and Oak Forest firefighters were still at the crash scene as of Monday morning.

The accident disabled the traffic light at 159th and Cicero, and lanes have been reduced or the intersection has been shut down at various times since the crash as crews continue to repair the damage, the fire department said. There is no estimate on when the traffic signal will be restored.
