Bremen High School District 228 To Host Outdoor Proms For Seniors

Oak Forest, Tinley Park, Bremen and Hillcrest High Schools are slated to have a prom for the class of 2021, following CDC guidance.

OAK FOREST, IL — The coronavirus may have stopped/altered many events for high school seniors, but one thing that seniors still have a chance to partake in is prom 2021.

Bremen High School D228 is hosting prom for all of its schools, which include Tinley Park High School, Oak Forest High School, Hillcrest High School and Bremen High School. The district confirmed that following CDC guidelines, it is going through with plans to host the senior staple event.

"The details are still in the works, but we will continue to follow IDPH guidelines. Because the guidelines can change quickly, we may also have to adapt plans in the future," Public Relations Specialist Jamie Bonnema told Patch.

As of right now, the following dates are slated for each school's prom:

  • Bremen High School is having its senior prom on May 8 at the Braves Stadium (football field)
  • Tinley Park High School is having its senior prom on May 26 at CD&ME (outside)
  • Hillcrest High School is having its senior prom on May 14 at the Country Club Hills Amphitheater (outdoors)
  • Oak Forest High School is having its senior prom on May 8 at the Bengal Stadium (football field).

Bonnema said that as of right now, the dances will be limited to senior students at each school to help with staying within IDPH guidelines. However, if guidelines change, then junior students and guests from other school districts may be able to attend. Students will still be expected to social distance and wear masks, Bonnema explained.

"Our schools are still working out what exactly the proms are going to look like, but students can expect a dance and food. It might be individually packaged items instead of a round-table seated meal, but our schools are dedicated to giving students the best prom they can within the guidelines," Bonnema said. "We know it's not ideal, everyone would love a traditional prom, but it will hopefully still be a special, fun and memorable experience for students. A lot of hard work and time is going into making the proms happen."
