Update: Midlothian Man Barricaded in Garage with Shotgun Prompts Lockdown at Nearby Schools

The 52-year-old man was due to be evicted from his home, WGN reports.

MIDLOTHIAN, IL — A hostage negotiator was called to a Midlothian home Monday morning after a man who was due to be evicted pointed a shotgun at officers and then barricaded himself inside a garage.

Cook County Sheriff's police arrived at the home at 14944 Ridgeway to evict the tenant. When they stepped inside, the 52-year-old man raised the gun, WGN reports.

No shots were fired, but the man fled into his garage and refused to emerge.

Several schools in Midlothian were on soft lockdown Monday as police responded to the scene. That lockdown was lifted just before noon.

The situation was resolved peacefully and the man was taken into custody around 11:40 a.m., according to Cook County Sheriff Spokeswoman Sophia Ansari. No charges have been filed at this time.
