Bremen High School's Circle Book Club hosted its second Small Circle Bedtime Stories Event on the evening of Wednesday, April 28, 2021. The event was open to District 228 staff members and their children, younger brothers and sisters of students, and any interested children in the community.

Attendees logged in to a Google meet where Circle Book Club members presented and read illustrated children's stories aloud. Circle members Jastasha Hudson, Jesus Cruz, Dayanara Lemus, and Jasmine Villagrana read several stories including “The Little Red Hen,” “Midas Touch,” “Brave Monkey Pirate,” “Mr. Bunny’s Carrot Soup,” “Sky Ride,” and “Billy to the Rescue.”

“Thank you to club members for hosting," said Amanda O'Rourke who is a Media Specialist at Oak Forest High School. "My girls had a great time, and my three-year-old even asked if we could watch it again after we hung up!"

After such positive feedback, the club has decided to continue hosting this virtual event in the future.

"It’s a simple, yet rewarding way for Bremen students to interact and share the wonder of books with children," says Circle Book Club Sponsor, Andrea Ignelzi.

While the event only had had 18 small attendees, those who participated seemed to really enjoy their time. Some of the children voiced their desire to join the book club one day and others shared their appreciation of the stories.

Mr. Ryan Blackwell, who is a teacher at Bremen High School says, “They were all so good. Cooper, my 4-year-old, got two shots at the doctor on Monday. He turned to me excited during the pirate monkey story and was so proud telling me that he did a good job getting his shots just like the monkey.”

With the 2020-2021 school year coming to a close, the Circle Book Club will return with their storytelling event in the 2021-2022 school year.
