EF1 Tornado Ripped Through Oak Forest During Monday's Derecho

The tornado produced damage to trees and powerlines.

OAK FOREST, IL — An EF1 tornado was confirmed to have touched down on Monday during the derecho storm that hit the area.

The tornado initially touched down east of South Harlem Ave. in Oak Forest, according to the National Weather Service. The storm made its way along east 151st street, before lifting at the I-57 and I-294 interchange in Midlothian, leaving behind minor damage.

The worst of all damage occurred in Midlothian near Cicero Ave. and Pulaski Rd. Multiple trees and power poles were snapped.

The tornado damage transitioned into straight line winds with wind speed near 90 mph, according to the weather service. The high degree of wind persisted to the Shabbona Woods Forest Preserve, before heading toward Calumet City, also according to the NWS.
