Enterprising Boys Bring a Veggie Stand to their Oak Forest Block
Neighbors can't pass up a home grown vegetable stand manned by kids from the neighborhood.

It is a cynical world out there and nothing can make you feel better about it faster than a home grown vegetable stand manned by children.
Mitch Kwiat, 4, Zachary Kwiat, 9, Matthew Nenza, 9, and Jacob Nendza, 11 set up the vegetable stand on a neighborhood street corner here in Oak Forest to sell the extra veggies from their moms' gardens.
These boys are all friends from the block and both of their families have vegetable gardens which they help with on a regular basis. When the veggies started to pile up, these enterprising young Oak Foresters saw an opportunity and grabbed it.

They planned together to set up the Vegetable stand and they decided that some of the profits would go to the American Veterans. The moms helped with the logistics of course, but the work was all their own. They were out there selling their home grown veggies for a few days until they were sold out.
Darcy Nendza and Christine Kwiat, also known as the "moms" in this story, are friends and thought the plan was wonderful when their children brought the idea to them.

"As a parent, it is wonderful to see them developing life-skills in a fun and engaging way while interacting with the community," Darcy said about the venture.
The stand was very popular on that neighborhood street corner with residents rolling up in their cars inquiring about their produce. They sold out of almost everything, so the boys needed to restock their inventory.
With school started next week, the veggie stand has been put on hold, but we hope to see them out there next harvest.
