Fatal Shooting: Man Takes Own Life, Woman Wounded In Oak Forest

The Oak Forest Police Department said a 55-year-old man died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot and a woman was wounded.

OAK FOREST, IL — Oak Forest police said a 55-year-old man is dead and a 55-year-old woman was wounded in a shooting Tuesday night. Officers responded to a report of a possible gunshot victim after 9 p.m. Tuesday evening in the 15800 block of Ridgeland Avenue according to police.

When officers arrived, they found an unidentified injured 55-year-old woman, according to police. It is "undetermined" if the woman was shot, police said.

Police said the shooting suspect, a 55-year-old man, fled into the open garage of a nearby residence.

Officers from the OFPD established a perimeter to prevent the suspect from escaping the area while "additional police resources" were put in place.

Police said after a perimeter was established, the suspect fired a single gunshot. Police entered the residence and found the unidentified 55-year-old man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot, according to police.

The woman was transported to an area hospital for treatment and the incident is under investigation by the police department's Investigations Unit, according to police. Police said the incident is domestic related and the status of the victim is unknown.
