Happy Mother’s Day To Lisa Hines

"You teach me how to be an adult, how to kill my own spiders and how to carry myself as a young woman."

In celebration of Mother's Day on Sunday May 13, we asked Patch readers to write a letter to their mother and let us deliver it. This is Marley Majetic's letter to her mom:

Dear Mom,

I don’t know how you do it. You put my sister through college, and you’re still not done with me yet! You have not only given me and Bailey everything we have ever needed, but you have given us more than we could have wanted or would have asked for.

It’s hard to express to you how much I love you and how much you mean to me when I’m gone for most of the year, but I wanted you to know that your hard work and tiredness has so much meaning behind it. You tell me that you would go as far as to put yourself out of the house if it meant that you were making your children’s dreams come true, and the work you put in to support your family every day proves it.

You work seven days a week, sometimes 13 hour days, just so that I can go to school and work toward my dreams. You assist me with every important decision I make, and although you don’t make those decisions for me, I know I will never be without your input! The amount of love you have for me is surely proven by your overprotective outlook on things, but it’s nice to have a mom who you know will always care just a little too much.

You have always told me how you support my decisions. Over the countless nights and hours I’ve spent crying on the phone to you (sometimes several nights in a row) about the stresses of college, you have always been there to not only get me through those moments, but to let me know that I am not alone because I have your support. You are a big part of the reason I work as hard as I do. I want to land a decent job when I’m older not only for my own security, but to give back to you, so that you can retire someday and not have to work seven days a week.

The content of this letter cannot describe my appreciation for the love and joy you bring to my life, even when I am away. Although I want to pay you back when I’m older by helping you to achieve some of your dreams, I know I can only scratch the surface compared to how much you have done for me these past 20 years. I can’t afford to purchase fancy jewelry for you on Mother’s Day, but I can try to express to you and the whole city about how outstanding of a mother you are.

You deserve so much more than what you get out of going to work every day. Your relentless drive keeps me motivated and gives me a reason to keep pushing through my challenges. You teach me how to be an adult, how to kill my own spiders and how to carry myself as a young woman. You are a beautiful, brilliant, loving and selfless mother. I wanted you and everyone to know how much I love you. You bring me so much happiness, and I’m so proud to have you as my mom.

“Made for greatness,”
Marley
