Jack Frost is a Summer Tradition for Oak Forest Families
Few in Oak Forest would argue that Jack Frost is the best place for an ice cream cone on a warm summer night.
What could be better on a warm summer night than a nice ice cream cone. If you live in Oak Forest, Jack Frost is the place to go.
For 42 years the residents of Oak Forest have clamored to the little cape cod shaped house on 159th Street for their favorite ice cream desserts. Annie H., an Oak Forest resident, gave Jack Frost 4 stars on Yelp and commented, "This has been my favorite ice cream place ever since I was little. The ice cream is amazing and the staff is always so friendly!" Annie is not the only one that has been coming to Jack Frost since their youth, it seems Jack Frost is a tradition in Oak Forest. John C., age 46 said that he has been coming to Jack Frost since he was a little boy and it is a family tradition to visit the ice cream legend after base ball games. He is following this childhood tradition with his own sons.
What is not to love about the cute and kitschy little stand. It is shaped like a Swiss Chalet in an A-frame style building. There is seating out front for about 75 people, give or take, with umbrellas for shade which is great on hot summer days. There is always music playing which adds to the lively atmosphere. People many times will ride their bikes or bring their dogs. On any given summer night, you have a good chance of running into one of your neighbors or a friend from school. It is not uncommon for a whole baseball team to show up to celebrate their win.

Danielle Hammerquist, mom to Carmella and Heather Hinde, mom to Maggie and Tricia, were there the other day to celebrate a little league win. "We love the feeling of community here at Jack Frost," Danielle commented. Heather loves the friendly atmosphere. "The service is always great and friendly," she said. This is not a surprise given the owners are from Oak Forest and love their customers. "We look at our customers and our employees, like family," was the answer when asked why they have such happy customers. "Oak Forest is our home and want to make every trip to Jack Frost special for everyone."
When Carmella Hammerquist was asked what she liked best about Jack Frost she exclaimed, "I love the ice cream!" This is the sentiment of everyone who comes here. The ice cream is delicious! Their specialty is their soft serve ice cream which comes in vanilla and chocolate. You can get almost every ice cream extravaganza you can think of. A big hit with the kiddos is the clown sundae which is just enough ice cream with a cherry on top. They have Italian Ice which is super refreshing and have added some new flavors like green apple, mango and blue raspberry. The Magnum bar is new to the menu and you can pick your own dip such as Butterscotch or Vanilla. An ultimate favorite of ice cream aficionados is the Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae. It is soft serve vanilla ice cream smothered in hot fudge with a brownie hidden in the middle topped with whip cream and a cherry. It is to die for.

Oak Forest is a city with a population of over 27,000 people, but on a summer night, sitting at Jack Frost with a dipped twist ice cream cone, surrounded by friends and neighbors, it feels much smaller.
