Markham Police Officer Fatally Shoots Man Outside Nightclub

MARKHAM, IL — A south suburban police officer shot and killed a man outside a nightclub early Sunday morning, ABC7 reports.

The Markham officer was attempting to break up a fight in the parking lot of Stadium nightclub, 16300 Dixie Highway, when a man holding a gun approached him around 3:30 a.m. The officer opened fire and killed the 20-year-old man.

The identities of the officer and victim were not known Sunday morning. The officer has been placed on modified duty while the incident is investigated by Illinois State Police.

The officer has been with the department at least four years.
