A Midlothian man shot in the face earlier this month lied to his family about the circumstances behind it, police said Saturday.
The 21-year-old man arrived home with finger-sized holes in his cheeks after a trip to the liquor store April 2, and told his family a tale of an attempted robbery and an assailant in a hoodie.
Midlothian Police Chief Harold Kaufman said the man's story was not true, and Midlothian police quickly got to the bottom of it.

"We soon learned the subject shot himself and tossed the gun," Kaufman wrote on the Midlothian Neighborhood Watch Facebook page. "The gun was later found by Midlothian police, as well the subject is now healing from a self-inflicted gun shot wound."
No further information was available Saturday.
