Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Metra Train ID'ed as Midlothian Woman, 46

MIDLOTHIAN, IL — A pedestrian struck and killed by a Metra train Wednesday evening has been identified as a 46-year-old Midlothian woman.

Carrie Topel, of the 14600 block of Abbottsford Road, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Topel was hit by a Rock Island train around 4 p.m., about a half-mile northeast of the Midlothian station, according to Metra and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Thursday concluded her death was a suicide.
