Oak Forest Fire Mourns Loss of Retired Lieutenant

Lt. Len Bonnevier died Monday, Jan. 30.

OAK FOREST, IL — The Oak Forest Fire Department is grieving the loss of one of its own, retiree Lt. Leonard Bonnevier. "Len" died Monday, January 30, according to a notice shared on the department's social media.

Bonnevier was a 30-year member of the department, having served as Chief for 2 years 1991 to 1993, the notice reads. He was instrumental in formation of the Third District Fire Chiefs (MABAS24) Fire/Arson Investigation Unit. He also received the OSFM Medal of Valor in recognition of his exceptional display of bravery and heroism as a firefighter in the line of duty for using his experience, training, and education in life-saving skills in the rescue of a female patient in 2006.

Visitation is set for Friday, Feb. 3, from 3 to 9 p.m. at McKenzie Funeral Home, 15618 S. Cicero Ave. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 4, beginning at 9:15 at the funeral home, processing to St. Damian Catholic Church, 5250 W. 155th. St. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, 7201 Archer Ave., in Justice.
