Charges are pending an investigation, police said Monday morning.

OAK FOREST, IL — A 20-year-old Oak Forest man was arrested early Monday after barricading himself inside a home.

Charges are pending for Thomas Schickel, of the 16000 block of Forest Avenue, after an hours-long ordeal that stemmed from a domestic disturbance.

Police were first called to the home Sunday just before 9 p.m. for a report of a domestic disturbance. Family members told police the man was armed with a handgun, which he had allegedly fired into the air before fleeing the residence.

Authorities searched for the man and later spotted a male matching his description heading back toward the residence. He re-entered the home once his family had left, police said, and reportedly barricaded himself inside.

Oak Forest police tried to make contact with Schickel, with no success. Police then called the South Suburban Emergency Response Team to assist. SSERT members heard a male subject inside the residence during the incident and attempted to make contact with him with negative results.
