Oak Forest Park District Girls Softball Season Canceled

The number of restrictions that would be needed led to the league's decision.

OAK FOREST, IL — The Oak Forest Park District Girls Softball season has officially been canceled. The league announced their decision over the weekend after deciding it was not worth all the changes that would need to be made in order to begin play amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"We looked at so many options, and came to the conclusion that a season with the types of restrictions we would be placing on our players, umpires, our fans, and so much more responsibility on our volunteer coaches, would not be the type of atmosphere and experience we are used to having in our softball league," a statement from the leage read in part.

Problems with social distancing requirements were among the numerous reasons the league cited in coming to the decision.

"The social distancing restrictions would not allow players to be near each other in the dugouts, they could not high five each other after a good play, they could not cheer for each other as a team in their dugout, nor shake hands after a game."

Refunds will begin "immediately," the league said.
