Oak Forest Police Department Faces Re-Accreditation Review

The evaluation next week is to see if the department meets standards set by the state's association for police chiefs.

OAK FOREST, IL — Independent reviewers will be in the city next week to assess whether the Oak Forest Police Department continues to meet standards set by the state association of police chiefs. The on-site evaluation is part of the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program and is required as part of the department's re-accreditation.

Oak Forest's police is one of around two dozen departments and law enforcement agencies to be accredited. The police force received its tier one ILEAP accreditation — which consists of 67 standards compared to the 180 standards of tier two — in 2015. That must be renewed by 2019.

During the review, the police department will be evaluated to see if its policies, procedures, management, operations and support services meet and exceed the program's standards. Residents and department employees are encouraged to offer their opinions about how the agency is doing. Comments no longer than five minutes can be left by calling 708-687-1376, ext. 1224, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.Nov. 5. Telephone comments are limited to five minutes in length. Emailed comments also can be sent to Rantoul police Chief Tony Brown, one of the ILEAP reviewers, at tbrown@village.rantoul.il.us.
