Oak Forest Police Respond To Eagle Sports Range Text Notification

The message was sent in error by Eagle and was intended only for select persons who actually purchased a firearm.

On Tuesday morning January 19, 2021 at approximately 0907 Hrs. a mass group text message was sent to recipients of Eagle Sports Range located at 5900 W. 159th Street in Oak Forest IL 60452. The summary of the message indicated that background checks have been approved, and you may pick up your firearm with a valid FOID card in hand as it has been a FULL 72 HOURS from the time of purchase.

This message has initiated an extreme amount of phone calls to the Oak Forest Police Department Telecommunications Center. The Oak Forest Police Department responded to the incident by sending officers to Eagle Sports Range. After communications with management, it was learned that the message was sent in error by Eagle and was intended only for select persons who actually purchased a firearm.

Since the Department’s in-person conversation with Eagle Sports Range, a subsequent message has been sent at 1035 Hrs. to all of their recipients indicating for them to disregard their last text message and that it was an error within their system. They further explained that no one’s data was compromised. The message further explained that if a purchase was made, the message does not confirm if a background check was completed.

At this time all inquiries should be followed up with Eagle Sports Range.
