Oak Forest Rocks, Literally.

I was searching Oak Forest Groups on Facebook when I came across one called "Oak Forest Rocks Kindness". I have to say I was intrigued, wondering what this group could be about. What I found was so cute, I have to share it with all Oak Foresters.

It is a group that advocates kindness in Oak Forest in the form of hidden rocks. So how it works is pretty simple. You paint a rock, any color, any design and place it somewhere around Oak Forest for a random Oak Forester to find. The painter puts the name of the Facebook group on the back of the rock, so the finder can then report back to the group and become a member. Another group member is born and the circle goes around and around. You can find the Facebook group here.

A mom of 2 from Oak Forest started the group after she went on vacation. She reports that her kids kept finding these painted rocks all over town with a message on the bottom. She looked into it and it was a group of residents that were leaving little gifts of kindness for anyone to find. She loved the idea and brought it back to Oak Forest.

The group has been in existence for a few years now. It has about 150 members. At one time, Mrs. Kuzel who is the art teacher over at Scarlet Oak Middle School got involved and had the whole 3rd grade painting rocks. The group is still active and some church groups and girl scout troops still paint rocks and leave them around Oak Forest for the unsuspecting resident to find.

I would love if this group just blew up. I am asking every mom, teacher, girl scout troop leader and every one in between to paint some rocks. Leave them around town. Don't forget to put a sticker on the bottom with the instructions to report back to the Facebook page once a rock is found. Don't forget to like the Facebook group. Let's create a little secret here in Oak Forest, that only we know. The secret of course is "Oak Forest Rocks".
