Man Dead, Woman Critically Injured In I-57 Crash: Police
A two-vehicle crash on the southbound side of Interstate 57 had one dead and another critically injured, according to police.
OAK FOREST, IL —A man died late Tuesday night after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 57 in Oak Forest, according to Illinois State Police. A woman was also transported to a local area hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
According to police, the crash happened around 11:20 p.m. on the I-57 southbound side of 171st Street, near Cicero Avenue.
The crash occurred when Alberto Gamez Jr., 44, of Lockport, was merging his Nissan Sentra into the right lane of traffic, police said. Gamez struck the rear end of a Nissan Altima that was disabled in the lane. The Nissan was driven by Antwon X. Boswell, 22, Chicago, according to police.

Gamez was transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. The passenger in his car, an unidentified 23-year-old Chicago man died, police said.

All southbound lanes were closed around 11:45 p.m., and traffic was redirected to 167th Street, according to police. All I-57 southbound lanes were reopened around 5:10 a.m.
Police said an investigation is underway and charges are pending.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
