Orland Church celebrates 24th Annual Swedish Christmas Breakfast
Katie Chavez of Oak Forest Selected as the 2019 Lucia Queen for the 24th Annual Lucia Breakfast and Program
Santa Lucia is a long held tradition in Sweden, recognizing the return of light after the dark winter. Hope Covenant Church in Orland Park has been carrying on this tradition for over 20 years with their 24th Annual Swedish Christmas Breakfast to be held this year on Saturday, December 14th at 10:00am at Hope Covenant Church, 14401 West Avenue, Orland Park, IL.
Miss Katie Chavez, has been chosen Lucia Queen for this year’s pageant. Katie is the daughter of Heather Johnson and Rudy Chavez of Oak Forest. Katie is a senior at Oak Forest High School, plays tennis, and is a member of the Oak Forest Marching Band as part of the percussion drumline. She also coaches gymnastics for the Oak Forest Park District.
Traditional Swedish foods will be served such as, cardamom coffee cake, sweet rye, hard-tack, bond-ost cheese, pickled herring, rice pudding and lingonberry, and potato sausage. The pageant will include the procession of the Lucia Queen wearing the traditional crown of candles, along with her attendants, who will also serve breakfast.

A very special program is planned featuring a special musical guest, the Chicago Spelmanslag. This group is the Chicago area's very own local, "home-town" Scandinavian Folk Band.
