Road Work, Traffic On 159th Street In Oak Forest Starts This Week
Plan to add extra time to your commute if you travel on 159th. St. in Oak Forest. Major road work that lasts through 2020 starts this week.

OAK FOREST, IL — Road construction projects on 159th Street in Oak Forest and Markham was expected to begin April 15, weather permitting. The Illinois Department of Transportation said that temporary daytime lane closures will be necessary at each location. The project is expected to be finished in the summer of 2020.
The project details include:
- 159th Street and Kedzie Avenue — intersection widening to add dual left-turn lanes in each direction and upgraded traffic signals.
- 159th Street and Central Park Avenue — upgraded traffic signals. Temporary, daytime lane closures will be necessary at times.
- 159th Street and Pulaski Road/Crawford Avenue — intersection widening to include additional turn lanes and upgraded traffic signals.
- 159th Street and Central Avenue— upgraded traffic signals.
Motorists can expect delays, officials said, and should plan to add extra time to their commutes through this area. They urge drivers to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and to be on the alert for workers and equipment.
