Rock Island Metra Schedule Changes Begin Jan. 28

The long-awaited changes to the Rock Island line include a federally mandated system that immediately stops a train during emergencies.

OAK FOREST, IL — A new Rock Island Metra schedule that makes room for a federally mandated safety system, express trains and other enhancements goes into effect Jan. 28. It now meets the demands of Positive Train Control, city officials said.

More than 800 people weighed in during the public comment period to offer suggestions to improve service. Metra officials said they did their best to accommodate those requests.

The schedule has changed, and riders should check the new schedulebefore they board during the work week. Weekend hours were not affected. The schedule will run on a trial basis and adjustments, if necessary, will be made during the next few months.
