Shoplifting Suspect Fatally Shoots Self after Indiana-to-Illinois Police Chase: Cops

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL — Authorities are on the scene in South Holland after a shoplifting suspect fleeing police fatally shot himself Monday afternoon, CBS reports.
The man—whose identity is not currently known—was suspected of having shoplifted merchandise from Cabela’s, 7700 Cabela’s Drive in Hammond, Indiana. The man dodged capture at the scene, even as an officer Tased him. The suspect then fired at police before fleeing the scene.
He led police on a chase on westbound I-80/94, then merged onto I-294. He later stopped his car on the ramp to the Lincoln Oasis in South Holland. The officer who was in pursuit saw a puff of powdered smoke inside the man's car.

The man was found dead by self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the car, according to police. No shots were fired by officers at any time.
Several stolen items from Cabela’s were recovered outside the store by employees, police said.
