1 Injured in Expressway Shooting Near Oak Park

There were no fatalities. The story is developing.

Illinois State Police are currently investigating a shooting that took place on the Eisenhower Expressway Friday morning near Oak Park.

By Friday afternoon, the investigation was slowing traffic, as police had closed all westbound lanes of the interstate through Oak Park, the Chicago Tribune reported. For the foreseeable future, those lanes will be blocked off.

State Police Sergeant Jason Bradley said the shooting took place at about 11:50 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 290.

There were no fatalities.

“The incident is currently under investigation,” Bradley told the Tribune. “There is one reported victim in the shooting who has been transported to a local area hospital. Their current condition is unknown.”

Tom Aftanas, the police chief in Forest Park, was helping to direct traffic at the intersection of I-290 and Harlem Ave.

“All I know is there were shots fired on the expressway, and one victim was shot,” Aftanas told the Tribune.
