17 Wounded, 7 Killed in Weekend Shootings Across Chicago
24 people were shot MLK Day weekend as of Sunday afternoon.
Two dozen people were shot across the Chicago area MLK Day weekend and seven were killed, ABC 7 reported Sunday. The first man who was fatally shot died at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park on Friday.
The 21-year-old victim, whose name hasn’t been released yet by Oak Park police, was shot around 4 p.m. in Austin, ABC 7 reported. He was allegedly shot repeatedly following an argument with someone in the 600 block of North Central Avenue.
Sunday morning, a suspect in a shooting that left three people hospitalized was shot and killed by Chicago police in East Garfield Park.

Around 5:30 a.m. the same day, officers responded to a call of a 'person down' in the West Lawndale neighborhood, according to ABC 7, and arrived to find an unresponsive 30-to-40-year-old man lying on the sidewalk. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Even earlier that morning, at 1:13 a.m. in the Lawndale neighborhood, a 34-year-old man was arguing with someone who proceeded to shoot him in the chest. He was transported from the scene of the crime on West Polk to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Another shooting took place in Austin Saturday night when a 26-year-old man was shot dead just before 7 p.m. in the 5500 block of West Rice. The incident was a drive-by shooting in which someone inside the car fired several times. The Cook County medical examiner’s office couldn’t immediately confirm the death that night, ABC 7 reported.
At 8:05 a.m. Saturday, two men, 27 and 39 years old, respectively, were shot after a man got out of a black car in the 1100 block of South Francisco in Lawndale and fired multiple shots at the men, who were standing in the street at the time.
The 27-year-old suffered shots to the head and chest and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The other man was shot in the back and wounded, but not killed.
In another instance, a man and woman who were inside a house in the 6000 block of South Carpenter around 3:30 a.m. Saturday were victims of a shooting in which at least five people entered the house and repeatedly fired shots at the pair. The man, 25-year-old Tyrone Blake, died at the house. The woman he was with, who’s 26 years old, was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
Just before 10 p.m. Friday, a 20-year-old man was driving in Marquette Park when a white Ford Explorer pulled up to him and someone inside shot him in the chest. The victim, Devonta Spraggins, was taken to Christ Medical Center and pronounced dead at 10:22 a.m.
This holiday weekend’s 24 reported shootings are a dramatic rise from the nine reported last weekend, according to ABC 7.
