5 (Warm) Ways to Entertain Your Family in Oak Park This Winter
The park district's list of events is never-ending.
Winter isn't the easiest time to get out and about. With Oak Park's recent below-freezing temperatures and more frigid weather on the way, it's easier to curl up in front of the TV with a mug of hot chocolate than leave the house.
The Park District of Oak Park is trying to change that.
The district has an array of diverse events planned for the coming months, and they're catered to kids, adults and families alike. Check them out below:

1. Winter Fest
This Jan. 28 festival will take place at Austin Gardens and will have something for everyone, whether that's outdoor ice skating, playing games, listening to music or something else. The most you'll have to pay is $1 — that's for ice skate rentals — but the rest is free. More here.

2. Meal Obsession
Chef Daniel Vogel of Food Obsession in Oak Park is hosting a workshop program that begins Jan. 26 and will teach participants about the art of meal composition. The program is four weeks and will take place at the Cheney Mansion. Fees range between $240 and $270, and participants have to be at least 21 years old, since Vogel will teach his students about wine pairings, as well. Register here.
3. Resolution-Solution Exercise Program
Tailored to exercisers who aren't big fans of large-class environments, this 6-week program will focus on accomplishing individual fitness goals and guiding participants through nutrition plans. Classes will take place twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays for an hour. The program starts Jan. 17. and will cost between $96 and $144. Participants can be 15 years old and up. Register here.
4. Youth Sports Program Options
The Park District is now offering 4-, 6- & 8-week options for soccer, basketball, floor hockey and volleyball. 4-week option: General skills will be taught while incorporating some mini games. 6-week option: First 2 weeks will be skills based & last 4 weeks we will divide all participants into teams to compete. 8-week option: First 2 weeks will focus on skill development & last 6 weeks all participants will be divided into teams to compete with officials. 5. PDOP Youth Game Club
If you have kids between the ages of 8 and 12 who like to play video games, get them out of the house and to this club so their experience can be social. More information here.
