56 Oak Park Homes Sold in April '13: Real Estate
The median price of Oak Park homes sold was about the same as that in April 2012, but it's a big jump in the number of home sales compared to last year. River Forest home sales were down slightly.
The 56 detached, single-family homes sold in Oak Park during April represented a 86.7 percent increase from April 2012, when 30 homes were sold, according to the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors (MORe).
Five homes were sold in River Forest, down from seven in April 2012.
The median price of River Forest homes sold in April decreased compared to last year. The median price dropped 20 percent to $440,000 from $550,000 in April 2012. Prices were nearly the same in Oak Park, increasing slightly to $390,500 from $386,250.

The number of homes sold in Oak Park was also up from .
The market for detached, single-family homes in suburbs throughout west Cook County saw growth in March, MORe reported. MORe gets its statistics from Midwest Real Estate Data.

In the near west suburbs, Oak Park saw the largest percent increase in sales, with 86.7 percent more homes sold year over year in April. Forest Park had the highest percentage increase in median price.
The momentum is expected to continue as the number of detached homes under contract in April grew by 45 percent in those same communities. The median sale price for detached homes also increased 5.5 percent from the previous April.
“Word about the activity in the market is getting around,” said Tonya Corder, president of MORe and managing broker of Keller Williams Preferred Realty in Orland Park. “I think people who had been sitting on the sidelines are starting to realize that the market is accelerating. With today’s low interest rates and affordable home prices, if you are a buyer, your opportunity is now.”
