92-Year-Old Oak Park Man Dies From Coronavirus: Officials

According to Oak Park officials, the village's latest coronavirus victim was a resident of a local long-term care facility.

OAK PARK, IL — An Oak Park resident who had tested positive for COVID-19 has died and 43 new cases have been confirmed, the Oak Park Department of Public Health announced Wednesday.

The latest fatality was a 92-year-old man who was a resident of a local long-term care facility. Thirty-five Oak Park residents who had tested positive for the virus have died since the first death was reported here on April 2, village officials said.

Of the new cases, 24 were confirmed Tuesday and 19 Wednesday. They range in ages from less than 20 and into their 80s.

According to state data, 1,215 Oak Park residents have tested positive since the first case was reported here on March 18. The total number of cases is sometimes adjusted as residency is confirmed, village officials said.

As of Thursday, there have been 110,118 coronavirus cases and 2,549 deaths in Cook County. There have been 536,542 coronavirus cases and 10,477 deaths statewide, according to the Illinois Dept. of Public Health.

Community-based COVID-19 testing sites operated by the state are open to everyone regardless of symptoms or other criteria. No appointment, doctor referral or insurance is needed, and testing is free. The list of free, community-based testing sites is posted at online at www.dph.illinois.gov/testing.
