Car Hijacking Warning Issued By Oak Park Police

Oak Park police share the following warning and safety tips for drivers after several reports involving an 'old vehicle hijacking ruse.'

OAK PARK, IL — Oak Park police issued a public safety alert this week after getting several reports involving what they called an old vehicle hijacking ruse. According to police, this tactic involves a car bumping the back of the victim's car. The driver then pulls over and gets out to check for damage, during which one of more people from the car behind them steals the victim's car.

Police urge anyone whose car is bumped by another car to look around before getting out of your car.

"Or better yet, signal the other car to follow you to a busy, well-lighted area or to our station at 123 Madison St. before getting out to check for damage," police added.
