Man Charged With Abusing Mother

A River Forest man was charged with felony aggravated battery to a victim over 60 years old on Dec. 11, police reported.

John I. Kim, 43, of the 400 block of William, was arrested in his home by River Forest Police assisted by a Cook County Sheriff's police tactical team.

At 3:10 p.m. Dec. 10, an officer was dispatched to Loyola Hospital in Maywood after an Oak Park Township Senior Services caseworker reported that a woman over 60 years old was being abused. Her adult son allegedly pushed the victim to the floor during an argument on Dec. 7. Later that day, she took herself to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a broken arm, which required surgery. Officer completed their report and obtained an order of protection, as well as advised the victim of her rights under the Illinois Domestic Violence Act.

Officer continued to work the case, and at 2:25 p.m. Dec. 11, they entered the home and arrested Kim. Although no significant force was required to make the arrest, police asked for the help of the Cook County Sheriff's Police Hostage Barricade and Terrorism Team to gain entry to the house, due to police not being able to get in contact with him.

When police entered the home, they found Kim unresponsive, and he was taken to Oak Park Hospital for examination. Once released, he was brought to the police station where he was interviewed and charged with felony aggravated battery and misdemeanor obstructing identification. He was held pending a bond hearing.
