Escape Oak Park's Bitter Cold At These Warming Centers

We have addresses and hours if you need to get out of the extreme weather.

With winter temperatures plunging into the single-digits this week, Oak Park has opened warming centers to keep residents safe in dangerously cold weather.

Centers are currently open 24 hours a day at Rush Oak Park Hospital at 500 S. Maple Ave. Other sites are designated as warming centers and are open as follows:

  • West Suburban Medical Center (Eerie Street at Austin Boulevard): 5:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. daily
  • Oak Park Township (130 S. Oak Park Ave.): For seniors, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on weekdays. To find out if it’s open after hours, call West Suburban Hospital at 708-763-6200. If you need transportation services, call the Oak Park Police Department’s non-emergency line at 708-386-3800.
  • Village Hall (123 Madison St.): 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekdays

In the greater Chicago area, you can call the number 311 to find a warming center near you. The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services operates six centers during work weekdays when temperatures fall below zero. For more information, click here.
