Find Cooling Centers in Oak Park to Escape Excessive Heat

Oak Park residents are urged to check on their relatives, friends and neighbors as the week heats up.

OAK PARK, IL — Temperatures are on the rise this week in the Chicago area, and the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for Thursday afternoon through Friday evening.

This level of heat can pose health risks, especially to elderly adults, young children and pets.

Oak Park area residents who don't have access to air conditioning can use the village's free cooling centers at Rush Oak Park Hospital, 520 S. Maple Ave., and West Suburban Medical Center, 3 Erie Court.

To find out if the center is open after hours, call West Suburban Hospital at 708-763-6747 or Rush Oak Park Hospital at 708-660-6000. Free transportation is available by calling the police department non-emergency telephone number, 708-386-3800, according to the village.

Public health officials recommend avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during the heat of the day, wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drinking plenty of water.
