Charlie Louvin first grew to prominence playing with his brother as the Louvin Brothers. Originally a gospel act, the two found success as they began to add secular songs to their repertoire as well.

The music is classic country and the brothers were well known for the vocal harmonies in their songs.

In the early '60s Charlie and his brother, Ira, went their own ways musically, and only a few years later, Ira was killed in a car accident. Charlie continued to perform for the rest of his life, eventually finding a resurgence of interest in his music late in his career, playing at clubs like FitzGerald's as an independent musician. In his later years, Louvin would also perform and record with artists like Jeff Tweedy of Wilco and Emmylou Harris.
