Hole In The Wall Custard Shoppe Opens For Season In Oak Park
Ice cream lovers rejoice: Hole In The Wall is open for business!

OAK PARK, IL — The weather might still be brisk outside, but that didn't stop grinning kids and kids-at-heart heading to Hole In Wall Custard Shoppe to get ice cream for the store's much-anticipated seasonal reopening Thursday. Customers in coats, scarves, and hooded sweatshirts gathered for strawberry dipped cones and cherry-topped sundaes as though it were the middle of summer.
It's a day that Hole In the Wall's loyal customers have looked forward to every year since the ice cream shop opened more than 70 years ago. "Our son woke up and said "it's Hole in the Wall day!!!" one resident wrote on Hole In Wall's Facebook page.
The shop's black and white letter board menu displays its assortment of malts, cones, shakes, sundaes, floats, slushies, and frozen yogurt. Once you've made the difficult decision of what to order, you face the challenge of picking a flavor.

Cones can be dipped in peanut butter, cherry, and chocolate, to name a few. Malts can be ordered in traditional chocolate and vanilla or more inventive flavors like root beer and pineapple. There are also dozens of mix-in candies and sweets to choose from.
Hole In The Wall sits in a pleasantly unassuming storefront beneath a bright pink awning at 901 S. Oak Park Ave. It's open Sunday through Saturday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. If you go, be sure to bring your appetite and some cash, as this old-school ice cream shop is strictly cash-only.
