Here's how Beyond Hunger, formerly Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry, is raising awareness about food insecurity in the community.

OAK PARK, IL — September is Hunger Action Month, and Beyond Hunger, formerly Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry, is raising awareness about food insecurity in the community and provides several ways for others to participate. Beyond Hunger, located at 848 Lake Street in Oak Park, has food distribution events every Wednesday and Saturday, accepts donations of canned goods or pantry staples, and monthly volunteer orientations, Patch Neighbor Sarah Corbin said.

According to Beyond Hunger, other active ways to support your community members include:

  • Dine Out for Hunger at these local restaurants: Support local restaurants and contribute to the fight to end hunger. Dine out, pick up and look for the Beyond Hunger donation jar.
  • Hunger Action Month BINGO: Family-friendly virtual and Drive-in BINGO events. Earn and win prizes and swag.
  • Learn: "Read a new book. Try a new recipe. Challenge yourself to shop with a constrained budget. And share what you've learned."
  • Volunteer

In addition to the above actions, Beyond Hunger encourages community members to advocate to help improve public policies to end hunger and under nutrition this month by wearing any orange you have.
