Oak Park Republicans Dust Off and Look Toward Future: Letter to the Editor

A letter to the editor in the wake of the Nov. 6 election from Linda Tibensky of the Oak Park Township Republicans.

The dust is settling on our defeat of last week, and we Republicans are tempted to feel very bad. Silver linings appear, however, mainly the increase of volunteers who appeared almost from nowhere to help the campaign. It has been an encouraging resurgence.

We are especially grateful to our election judges, who filled in slots otherwise taken by Democrats—some from Chicago and some refusing even to even wear Republican badges. There are still too many Democrats serving as Republican judges, and we need more of our own.

Thanks also to my committee members who made calls at a GOP Victory Center, visited polls on election day, and worked hard on other projects. Last but not least, we thank the brave Oak Parkers who put signs out on their lawns.

We were so happy to see the many who attended our debate-watch fundraiser at Molly Malone's, where the turnout was fantastic. It was also encouraging to have younger Republicans join us, one of whom will be starting a Young Republicans Oak Park chapter.

All in all, we intend in the coming months to rally Republican voters for the 2014 election, when big issues will again be to the fore.  Stay tuned.
