Mother sues Oak Park Hospital for Daughter's Brain Damage

Mother claims newborn daughter was left unattended for 68-minutes at West Suburban.

A Cook County mother is suing VHS West Suburban Medical Center for allegedly leaving her daughter unattended for 68-minutes and causing subsequent brain damage.

Vanessa Popp filed the suit on Dec. 23 in the Cook County Circuit Court for medical malpractice, the Cook County Record reports.

Popp arrived to the West Suburban Medical Center in active labor on Nov. 25, 2010 and was transferred to the operating room for a C-section, according to the complaint. During the C-section the fetal monitor was disconnected for an alleged 68-minutes when her blood pressure dropped to dangerous levels.

The suit states her daughter, Josephine, suffered from fetal asphyxia and seizures. Popp is seeking more than $50,000 in legal damages and legal costs.
