Park District of Oak Park Announces Holiday Event Lineup
The park district will host dozens of events this season.
The Park District of Oak Park announced its holiday event schedule Tuesday, and it’s chock-full of events for the whole family.
We handpicked some of the most exciting park district events of the season; a full event schedule can be found here. The below calendar also provides links to more information and sign-up sheets for each event.
Nov. 16: Winter Weatherization
This one is for the adults — if you want to learn how to get your house winter-ready, reduce your heating bill and help the environment, Kristen Pratt from the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum will be teaching a group Wednesday focusing on just that. The event will last from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Austin Gardens (167 Forest Ave., Oak Park). Register here.

Nov. 18: Odyssey Fun World Teen Trip
On the other hand, this one’s just for teenagers. Register your child here for a Friday night trip that will involve laser tag, rides at Odyssey Fun World, paintball and more. The Park District will provide “Extreme Adventure” wristbands for the teens, which will include three indoor rides, laser tag, a paintball mask and gun rental. If teens want to buy snacks or any other entertainment, they should plan to bring some extra money.
Nov. 26: The Full Games
Burn off those Thanksgiving calories with some friendly family competition at the Full Games, where families will compete against one another in obstacle courses, puzzles and other games. The program will be dependent on weather, and all kids must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Full Games will last from 1-2:30 p.m. at Austin Gardens. Fees range from $3-$5. Sign up here.

Dec. 2: Conservatory Candle Walk
Get in your yearly Santa visit at the Oak Park Conservatory this season. The Santa stage will be decorated with seasonal poinsettias, and drinks, desserts and chestnut roasting will also be available. Holiday carolers will entertain the guests. The conservatory will be open from 6-8 p.m. on the night of the candlelight walk. Preregistration is required.
Dec. 4: Conservatory Holiday Open House
The Park District is kicking off the Christmas season with an open house Dec. 4 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The event is totally free, including crafts for children and refreshments throughout the day. Poinsettias and paperwhites will be on display and available for sale. Staff horticulturists will also be on hand to craft unique arrangements for your tabletops and help you shop the winter greens market.
Dec. 7: Green Gifting Workshop
Ever wanted to save some money by making your own gifts? This workshop will focus on making four gifts per person, all of which will be environmentally friendly. Registration includes one drink — either cider or cocoa.
