Oak Park Has Huge Turnout for Chicago Marathon

Nearly 200 residents showed up to run the race.

CHICAGO, IL — The Bank of America Chicago Marathon wasn't short on participants from Oak Park — almost 200 residents ran the race Sunday. The 26.2-mile course took runners through 29 Chicago neighborhoods that went all the way north to Wrigley Field and south to US Cellular Field.

Aaron Merriweather, 38, was the first Oak Park resident to finish the race at a time of 2:55:02, according to unofficial Chicago Marathon results. He finished 574th overall, 523rd in his gender and 97th in his 35-39 age division.

Close behind Merriweather was Joshua Levy, who finished in 3:03:40 and placed 71st in his 20-24 age group.

Here are some of Oak Park's other fastest finishers:

  • Matthew Quinn, 40 (40-44 age division), 3:11:33
  • Gavin Kearney, 47 (45-49 age division), 3:16:56
  • Anan Abu-Taleb, 57 (55-59 age division), 3:21:54
  • Jeffery M. Trevino, 53 (50-54 age division), 3:24:39
  • Matthew Swank, 40 (40-44 age division), 3:26:13

Elite runners from Kenya dominated the race. Kenyan Abel Kirui finished first with a time of 2:11:22, beating out last year’s champion and fellow Kenyan Dickson Chum in the final mile. Florence Kiplagat, 29, was the top female finisher clocking in at 2:22:31. Results are still unofficial.
