Oak Park Imposes Curfew Amid Unrest Sunday
The curfew is in effect from 9 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday.
OAK PARK, IL — The village of Oak Park imposed a curfew Sunday for residents after businesses in the city were vandalized amid ongoing protests in reaction to the death of George Floyd. The curfew, imposed via an emergency order, will be in effect from 9 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday.
Police say several businesses in the area were targeted by vandals during Sunday's protests and residents were urged to be vigilant. As a result of the curfew, residents are advised to stay home.
Earlier in the day, Oak Park officials said in a statement, "Today, we reflect upon a shared grief, anger and even futility about the recent senseless death of George Floyd while in the custody of a Minneapolis, Minnesota police officer. We denounce and condemn the actions of this officer who has since been fired and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter."
