Oak Park Main Library Closes After Worker Positive For COVID-19

According to library officials, the main branch will remain closed until Nov. 19.

OAK PARK, IL — The Oak Park main library has temporarily closed to the public after a staff member recently tested positive for the coronavirus.

"Putting people and safety first has been our priority during this pandemic," library officials said in a statement.

Library officials said they learned Tuesday that the worker contracted the disease. The employee did not have direct contract with patrons, they said. Affected staff members are required to quarantine for 14 days.

As the main branch remains closed, it will undergo a thorough cleaning. The closure will also allow for traces of the virus to dissipate, library officials said. Seven days is the guidance provided by health authorities.

Also during this week, only digital and virtual services will be available (no contact-free services will be available):

While the building is closed, staff are working remotely to answer questions. For patrons with questions, visit oppl.org/contact. They can also use the library's live chat service, accessible via oppl.org, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Patrons can also call 708-383-8200 and leave a message. A library staff member will return calls as soon as possible.
