Oak Park Police Developing Leads in Case of Tuesday Shooting: Update

The shooting left one 20-year-old man hospitalized.

The case of an Oak Park shooting that left one resident hospitalized continues to develop.

Police initially responded to reports of gunshots at 710 S. Harvey Ave. around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday to find a man had been shot in his left leg. The 20-year-old victim was immediately transported to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood by the Oak Park Fire Department.

The nearby Longfellow Elementary School was on lockdown for a brief time — about 15 minutes, the Wednesday Journal reported — before police confirmed the shooting was “targeted” and the area was safe.

Oak Park Police Chief Anthony Ambrose told the Wednesday Journal his team has developed leads in the case and are conducting “numerous” interviews, but couldn’t elaborate since the investigation is ongoing.

Ambrose did say the shooting took place on the front porch of the Harvey Avenue home, and that it wasn’t a drive-by shooting.

“It’s not random, so that tells you something right there,” Ambrose said.

Detectives are still trying to find the shooter, he said. The victim is stable and has been released from the hospital.
