Oak Park Residents Vie for 'Welcoming Ordinance' to Protect Immigrants in Light of Trump Presidency

"I don't want to see my tax dollars going toward the separation of families. We want zero collaboration with immigration agencies."

At its most recent village board meeting, Oak Park’s residents vied for a new ordinance that would protect and welcome immigrants in light of President Donald Trump’s public stance on immigration.

Several residents made their voices heard during Tuesday’s board meeting, the Pioneer Press reported, including resident Ben Weinberg, whose mother fled Nazi Germany for the U.S. decades ago.

“[President] Trump has made it clear what direction he wants to move our laws toward,” Weinberg reportedly said at the meeting.
