Oak Park-River Forest Veterans Day 2020: What's Open, Closed
Most banks, government offices and public schools in Oak Park and River Forest will be closed Wednesday.
OAK PARK, IL — Veterans Day is Nov. 11, which falls on a Wednesday this year. The national holiday was established in 1926 to honor men and women who have served in the military.
To honor those veterans, many places around the country will be closed.

Oak Park Village Hall: Village hall will be closed Wednesday in observance of Veterans Day. It will reopen the following day.
River Forest Village Hall: Village hall will be closed Wednesday in observance of Veterans Day. It will reopen the following day.

River Forest - District 90: Evening parent teacher conferences planned. It's an all day event, according to the district's calendar. There is no school for students on Nov. 12.
Oak Park and River Forest High School: The calendar makes no mention of school closing on Veterans Day. It does mention that VIP club group photos will take place in the afternoon.
Oak Park Elementary School District 97: According to its calendar, the district will be open.
Palatine Police Department/River Forest Police Department: No matter the time of year or the occasion, the men and women in blue are always here to protect and serve.
State of Illinois: Closed (See link)
Federal government (including the U.S. Postal Service): Closed
Banks: Many, if not most, will be closed. Check your local branch.
Express delivery companies: FedEx and UPS will be open.
The following places will be open at the business owner's discretion:

- Convenience Stores
- Liquor stores
- Retail stores (check with your local retailers first)

According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Day commemorates Armistice Day — the day when World War I hostilities ended between the Allies and Germany. Veterans Day is officially observed on Nov. 11, regardless of which day it falls.
