Oak Park Seeking Artists To Paint Local Railroad Murals, Display Sculptures
All artists will be compensated, and all positions have to be applied for.
Oak Park is looking for artists to participate in a summer ‘Sculpture Walk’ and to beautify local railroad walls with murals.
Artists in the area have to complete an application to temporarily display their work in the sixth annual Sculpture Walk, which will take place from May through September, the village announced in a newsletter. Event organizers are looking for at least 12 outdoor pieces to be part of the outdoor exhibit in the Oak Park Arts District on Harrison Street. According to the newsletter, the village may consider purchasing one of the works of art at the end of the Sculpture Walk to be displayed in its permanent collection. Participants will also receive $2,000 once the exhibit wraps up. Applications to participate are due March 24.
Twelve artists are also being recruited to create murals for the railroad retaining walls along the Green Line, the newsletter states. The village wants to transform these walls “from dull, blank concrete into canvases,” and artists will work in two shifts of six. The deadline pitch your concept for the first six slots is Friday, April 21. The second deadline will be Monday, June 19. All artists will receive a stipend for materials for their project, as well as compensation once the mural is completed. Further information about applications can be accessed by emailing info@oakparkareartscouncil.org or calling 708-358-5692.
