Oak Park Sites Get Spotlight In Illinois Solar Tour

Eight homes and public spaces will be open for tours that address the benefits of solar, wind, and geothermal energy.

OAK PARK, IL — Eight sites throughout the village of Oak Park will be in the spotlight as part of the Illinois Solar Tour on Sept. 22. As part of the free event, members of the public can tour featured sites that use solar energy to learn about how it functions and plays a role in benefitting the environment and cutting costs.

Tours of sites along the Illinois Solar Tour are self-guided from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oak Park's featured solar sites that you can visit on Sept. 22 include public spaces and private homes:

  • Austin Gardens Environmental Center, 167 Forest Ave.
  • Avenue Parking Garage, 720 N. Blvd.
  • Longfellow Park Center, 610 S. Ridgeland
  • 341 Harrison St.
  • 613 S. Lombard Ave.
  • 1139 S. Lombard Ave.
  • 165 N. Taylor Ave.

The Illinois Solar Tour, which is made possible by the Illinois Solar Energy Association, features properties that use solar power, wind, and geothermal energy to reduce environmental impact and reduce costs. The interactive tours will be hosted by property owners and experts who can answer questions and provide additional information about the benefits of green energy.
