Driver Gets DUI After Striking Recycling Bin

A River Forest officer on patrol in the area of Quick and William reported hearing an accident around 3:25 a.m. The officer then saw a vehicle that had struck a recycling bin on Quick. The officer pulled the driver over and reported smelling alcohol on the breath of Paul Roeser, 49, of the 7200 block of Oak in River Forest. Roseser failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody. He was later charged with driving under the influence and other violations.

Driver Traveling 73 MPH in a 30-MPH Zone Gets DUI

An officer on patrol stopped a vehicle around 2:29 a.m. in the 1300 block of Harlem that was seen traveling at 73 mph in a 30-mph zone. The driver, Doris Hines, 49, of the 1100 block of south Hannah in Forest Park, admitted to the officer that she had consumed alcohol prior to driving and subsequently failed a field sobriety test. Hines was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence and other violations.

SATURDAY, JAN. 19

Rear Window of Vehicle Broken

A resident reported that between 4-11:40 p.m., someone had broke the rear window of his vehicle while it was parked in the 800 block of Harlem in a parking lot.

Vehicle Burglarized

A resident of the 500 block of Forest reported that between 1-8 a.m. someone removed an Apple iPhone from an unlocked vehicle parked in her driveway.

DUI Arrest

At about 1:43 a.m. and officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop in the 8200 block of North Avenue. The driver, Michael Ellis, 31, of the 1900 block of north 19th Street in Melrose Park, failed a subsequent field sobriety test. Ellis was taken into custody and later charged with driving under the influence and other violations. A breath test at the station showed his blood alcohol content at .220.

TUESDAY, JAN. 15

Passenger Provides False Name, Later Arrested on Warrant

At around 7:13 p.m., police pulled over a vehicle in the 7200 block of North Avenue. The officer reported smelling cannabis emitting from the vehicle. Other officers came to the location, including a K-9 unit from Berwyn. A small amount of cannabis residue was located in the car, along with $6,095 on one of the passengers. One of the car’s passengers, Zarnado Tate, 20, of the 100 block of Forest Place in Oak Park, initially provided officers with a false name. A computer check found that Tate was wanted on two outstanding warrants; one from DuPage County for theft and another warrant from Champaign County for retail theft. Tate was taken into custody and charged with obstructing identification and the warrants.

MONDAY, JAN. 14

Speeding Driving Charged with DUI

Around 10:44 p.m., an officer on patrol reported seeing a vehicle in driving 55 mph in a 30-mph zone in the 1300 block of Harlem. After additional violations were observed, the driver was pulled over in the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue. Officers reported smelling alcohol on the driver, Ewa Kwec, 51, of the 600 block of Lake Street in Oak Park. Kwec failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence and other violations.
